NORAM SX\u2122 (UNS S32615) is an austenitic stainless steel developed for use in strongly oxidizing acids. The alloy contains 4.8\u20136.0% silicon, which promotes formation of a stable silicon\u2011dioxide (SiO\u2082) layer when exposed to concentrated nitric acid. This layer gives the material a high level of corrosion resistance.<\/strong><\/p>\n In nitric acid concentrations of 95\u201397%, the corrosion rate is essentially zero under typical operating conditions.
